Dorothy Fadiman, Michael WieseRADIANCE: The Experience of Light

Prefer flash? · Embed · Questions/Feedback?

At a time when inter-cultural understanding is increasingly fragile,
RADIANCE affirms the presence of a universally shared experience.
Striking natural images, unusual special effects, and poetic narration
are woven together with a wide range of musical selections to develop
an evocative documentary on light, from the physical to the metaphysical.

Through religion, philosophy, art, and architecture, RADIANCE documents
the story of light as a universal symbol of life to people from many cultures.
Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism, and Judaism, plus images from
Pagan rituals and ancient Egypt are intricately related. This inspiring film
invites the viewer to see how images of light continue through ancient
cultures into the present, connecting the visions and values
of people around the world.

RADIANCE had been posted on Internet Archive for several years, and was recently (in March 2009) moved to this new page. As a result, our original number of 9,000 downloads was reset to zero; therefore, the number of downloads appearing in the bottom right-hand corner represents starting over with our "new beginning".

All public, educational, and government access television stations (PEG) and community media stations have permission to broadcast this film and any of Dorothy Fadiman's other films.

Subject: A Personal Spiritual Journey
I wanted to respond to Alchemist. It is evident this person did not understand the concept behind this film. It is a personal documentary about Dorothy's experience of being filled with Light. That defines this being a documentary! Yes, the film was her first film, back in 1979, so you can not fault that the special effects are not up to today's standard. Even so, it is a wonderful experience to watch. Still has impact, still has meaning, still has relevance.
Bah humbug? Maybe you are not the person to be curating a night of spiritual cinema. You obviously are missing something if you can not recognize one of the earliest films to address this subject matter in a way in which it has touched so many people.

Subject: This IS a Documentary
In reference to Alchemist7, this is a personal documentary of Dorothy's personal experience, and then her relating her experience to other religions and spiritual practices. What you may not know is that this film was created in 1979, back then special effects were done with slide projectors, etc. And, Michael Wiese is not a mysterious filmmaker, he is quite renown in his own right.
This is a movie about her specific experience, her awakening, and her research into the Spiritual Light within us all. I have loved this film from the very first time I saw it, and still find it beautiful and relevant today!

Subject: So disappointed
Having read Fadiman's book on producing, I was looking forward to watching her first documentary. This is not a documentary. This is crapola: a series of dissolves set to nothing-new narration. I say this with no malice towards her subject matter; quite the contrary. I curate Spiritual Cinema Night in Ojai, CA, and I thought this "film" might be one we could show. This is not a film. This is a collaboration with a mysterious "film-maker" who appeared on her doorstep and wanted to collaborate with her. Michael Wiese, her publisher and producer? Yes, we are luminous beings of light! Make a movie about that! Make a movie about your experience! Not a series of still photos dissolving. Bah humbug!
